Craft Your Own Coffee & Village Tour

Create Lifelong Memories With Betheli Expeditions

Nestled on the mountain slopes of Kilimanjaro lies the beautiful village of Materuni, located 15km on the northern part of Moshi Town, the last village before entering Kilimanjaro National. A popular activity is the village hiking and a coffee tour, where you will visit the coffee plantations, understand the origin of coffee, who discovered coffee, how and when coffee was brought to Tanzania, how to plant, harvest, and process the coffee in the center before enjoying a fresh cup of coffee made with your own hands. From Materuni Village you will walk some 45 minutes to the waterfall.

The walk itself is extremely interesting, as you will see some smaller waterfalls and lots of waterways which are part of the irrigation system of the local farmers who grow coffee, bananas, and many other fruits and vegetables. At the waterfall, you can even refresh in the cool and crystal-clear water – don’t forget to bring your swimwear! Here you will also break for lunch before doing a short tour of Materuni village, where you’ll be able to learn more about the typical life of Chagga tribe members.

The village, located at a height of around 1600m above sea level is set within a dramatic landscape of high rises and deep valleys, all covered by tropical rainforest. This is an example of an extension that can easily be added to your expedition. We will work with you to create a fully customized itinerary, including this or any of our other add-on options.
